Troopers in Columbia County were first called to the Cantele Car Wash in Greenport on April 22, 2022 with reports of two possible break-ins, according to New York State Police.
Investigators determined that the wash, located on Fairview Avenue, had been burglarized on 10 occasions, with the suspect making off with over $4,000 and causing extensive damage to a vending machine and coin dispenser in the process.
Police eventually tied Stockport resident Joseph Shook, age 35, to the burglaries and arrested him on Thursday, July 21, police said.
He’s facing multiple criminal charges, including ten counts of third-degree burglary and grand larceny, all felonies.
Shook was arraigned in the town of Greenport Court and released on his own recognizance. He was due back in court Monday, July 25.
